On the morning (local time) of Tuesday, October 16, 14 members of the Iranian security forces were abducted in the Lulakdan area (southern Sistan and Baluchestan province) on the border with Pakistan. The Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Clashes between Iranian security forces and separatist militants regularly take place in Sistan and Baluchestan, a Sunni-majority province.
Individuals in Iran are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid the border regions, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments. Many Western governments advise against travel to the southern border with Pakistan.
