Various transportation strikes are to take place throughout Italy on Friday, October 26, with some beginning on Thursday evening. Aviation-sector workers will be on strike for 24 hours on Friday. Rail workers at Trenitalia (the national rail operator) Italo NTV (a privately-run high-speed train operator), Trenord (the company that operates regional passenger trains in the Lombardy region), and FSI (a group that oversees the country’s rail network) will strike for 24 hours from 21:00 (local time) on October 25. Public transportation workers in the Rome-Ciampino and Catania regions will also strike on October 26.
Transportation-related strikes are common in Italy and can be highly disruptive. However, in accordance with Italian law, minimum service levels must be guaranteed during all strikes.
Individuals in Italy are advised to confirm their travel itineraries and to allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
