Nigeria News Alert

Unidentified gunmen kill two police officers in Kaduna (Kaduna state) on October 17

TIMEFRAME expected from 10/17/2018, 12:00 AM until 10/22/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Lagos). COUNTRY/REGION Kaduna

At approximately 05:15 (local time) on Wednesday, October 17, unidentified gunmen opened fire on police officers along Nnamdi Azikiwe road in the city of Kaduna (Kaduna state). According to a security spokesperson, two police officers and their driver were killed in the attack, with five other police officers sustaining injuries. Additional security forces have been deployed to the area. A heightened security presence is anticipated in Kaduna in the coming days.

Individuals in Kaduna state are advised to remain vigilant and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.

The security environment in Nigeria is complex and is particularly concerning in the northeast and extreme south of the country due to the presence of armed groups, high crime rates, and the risk of kidnapping. Some Western governments consequently advise against travel to certain areas of the northeast (e.g. states of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Jigawa, and Kano states) and the southern Niger Delta region (e.g. states of Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers). It is also advisable to avoid nonessential travel to Zamfara, Sokoto, Plateau, and Kaduna states. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel to these areas.
