The Coordinator No+AFP civil society group is calling for protests in major cities throughout the country, including the capital Santiago, on Wednesday, October 24, in opposition of the current Pension Fund Administrators (AFP). Demonstrators are being asked to gather from 08:00 until 20:00 (local time). According to a No+AFP spokesperson, protesters in Santiago will rally at Plaza Vicuña Mackenna near the National Library at noon. Heightened security measures and localized traffic disruptions are anticipated around all protest sites.
No+AFP is demanding that the government reform the current pension system. The group claims that the current administration has failed to listen to the social demands of the people.
Individuals in Chile, particularly Santiago, are advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
