A suspicious package was found at the Tribeca Grill restaurant in New York City early on Thursday, October 25. If an explosive device is contained within the package, it will be the ninth such device sent to leftist targets since Monday (the restaurant is owned by the actor Robert de Niro, a critic of President Donald Trump). The other eight devices were sent to targets in New York, Washington, DC, and Florida on Monday and Wednesday. None of the devices detonated.
A heightened security presence is likely in affected areas in the coming hours and days and further incidents are possible. Authorities have not named any suspects.
The packages have targeted figures critical of President Trump, many of whom are Democratic Party officials, donors, or have worked in a Democratic administration.
The other devices were sent to the residence of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (Chappaqua, New York state), the office of former President Barack Obama (Washington, DC), former Vice President Joe Biden, former US Attorney General Eric Holder (received at the office of Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz [Sunrise, Florida]), former CIA Director John Brennan (received at Time Warner Center, New York City), to Congresswoman Maxine Waters (received at a congressional mail screening center in Capitol Heights [Maryland]), and the home of billionaire George Soros in Katonah (New York state).
Individuals in the affected areas, and the US more generally, are advised to monitor developments to the situation, report all suspicious objects and behavior to the police, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
