Chile: Nationwide protests planned October 24

On Wednesday, October 24, police forces arrested at least 12 people in Santiago following clashes during a demonstration that drew over 500 people. The demonstration had been organized to protest reforms to pensions in the country. Further demonstrations are possible in Santiago in the coming days. A heightened security presence is to be anticipated in the vicinity of any protest; clashes between protesters and police forces cannot be ruled out.

The Coordinator No+AFP civil society group called for protests to take place in cities throughout the country, including the capital Santiago, on Wednesday, October 24, to protest the current Pension Fund Administrators (AFP). No+AFP demands that the government reform the current pension system.

Individuals in Chile, particularly Santiago, are advised to avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
