20 people arrested following clashes between youths and security forces in Tunis on October 24; further protests possible

Clashes erupted between protesters and police in the Sidi Hassine district of the capital Tunis on Wednesday evening, October 24 (local time); 20 individuals were arrested. The protests broke out following the funeral of a 19-year-old killed during a police operation the day prior. Security forces reportedly used tear gas against protesters, who had been throwing rocks and blocking roads. Although the situation has since calmed, further protests are possible in the coming days.


Aymen Othmani was killed on October 24 during a police raid; police were searching for smuggled goods.


Individuals in Tunis are advised to avoid all gatherings as a precaution.
