According to a police spokesperson, at least 11 people were killed, and six others wounded during a mass shooting incident at the Tree of Life Congregation synagogue in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) on Saturday, October 27. Reports indicate that the suspected shooter surrendered to police and was placed under custody at approximately 11:15 (local time), one hour hour after the shooting began. Investigators are reportedly treating the shooting as an antisemitic crime. As of Saturday afternoon, a security perimeter remains in place around the synagogue; a heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are therefore to be anticipated in the area.
Individuals in Pittsburgh are advised to avoid the area of the incident and obey all instructions issued by the local authorities.
