Unions call for transportation workers to stage nationwide strike on October 28-3

The Bangladesh Road Transport Workers' Federation has called for workers in the transportation industry to stage a nationwide 48-hour strike from 06:00 (local time) on Sunday, October 28 to 06:00 on Tuesday, October 30. According to local sources, the strike is being organized to request changes to the 2018 Road Transport Act passed by the Bangladeshi Parliament on September 19. Associated demonstrations will likely be held in major urban areas. 


As a precautionary measure, individuals present in Bangladesh are advised to stay away from all public gatherings, rallies, and marches due to the risk of violence and to adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
