A 24-hour general strike is set to take place in the northern El Cibao region beginning at 06:00 (local time) on Monday, October 29, to denounce rising fuel prices. Public transit, business, and commercial disruptions are possible, along with associated protests.
The El Cibao region, also known as Región Norte, consists of the provinces of Duarte, Hermanas Mirabal, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Dajabón, Monte Cristi, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Santiago, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, and Sánchez Ramírez.
Further strikes are possible in the coming days in the South and East regions of the country.
Individuals are advised to avoid all protests due to the risk of violence and be prepared for general disruptions.
