A rally was held in Tehran on Sunday, November 4, to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the hostage crisis at the US Embassy in 1979. Thousands of people reportedly participated in the demonstration that was organized by the Iranian government. According to state media reports, associated rallies were also held across the country. Further anti-US demonstrations are possible in the coming days after the US resumes sanctions against Iran on Monday, November 5.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the sanctions are being resumed in an effort to force Iran to stop its nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The sanctions will target the country’s oil exports as well as over 600 individuals and companies.

Individuals in Iran are advised to monitor developments to the situation, strictly avoid all protests and demonstrations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments.
