According to the Venezuelan government, members of a Colombian paramilitary group, ostensibly the ELN (Ejército de Liberación Nacional), attacked Venezuelan National Guard soldiers in Amazonas state (south) on Sunday, November 4. Four soldiers were reportedly killed and other 12 injured. The assault occurred after Venezuelan forces captured nine Colombian paramilitary members.
Context
The ELN is present in mining areas of the Venezuelan states of Amazonas and Bolívar, as well as in various regions of Colombia.

Various foreign governments advise against travel to areas along the Colombian-Venezuelan borders due to the presence of various armed groups and associated violence.
