Student and social groups called for a nationwide protest on Thursday, November 8, over a bill that would increase taxes on foodstuffs and other consumer products. Prominent politicians from several parties joined with civil society groups in condemnation of the bill, including former President Álvaro Uribe, former Vice President Germán Varges Lleras, and left-wing politician Gustavo Petro. In Bogotá, a demonstration is planned at 16:00 (local time) in Independence Park near the Bogotá Planetarium. Associated protests are expected in other major cities, along with transportation disruptions and a heightened security presence. 


Individuals in Colombia are advised to avoid all protests as a precaution and allow for additional transportation time.
