Afghanistan: Taliban kill 41 in Baghlan and Ghazni November 10

Afghanistan News Alert

Taliban militants kill 41 people in Baghlan and Ghazni provinces November 10; similar attacks expected over the coming weeks

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/11/2018, 12:00 AM until 11/13/2018, 11:59 PM (Asia/Kabul). COUNTRY/REGION Baghlan province, Jaghori district (Ghazni province)

Event

Taliban militants killed 41 people in Baghlan and Ghazni provinces on Saturday, November 10. The militants reportedly attacked a military base in Baghlan province on Saturday, killing 12 soldiers; the fighters also left explosives in the area of the attack which later killed four local tribal elders. In a separate attack in Jaghori district (Ghazni province) on Saturday night (local time), Taliban militants killed at least ten commandos and 15 civilians and wounded 17 others. Similar Taliban attacks targeting security forces are to be expected in Afghanistan over the coming weeks.

Context

Taliban and Islamic State militants launch attacks on government personnel, security forces, and civilians in Afghanistan on a near-daily basis. Such assaults are likely intended to undermine the perceived capacity of Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF), and the Afghan government more broadly, to adequately provide security in the wake of the withdrawal of most US-led NATO forces from the country and in the aftermath of parliamentary and district elections held October 20.

Advice

Individuals in Afghanistan are advised to monitor the situation, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.

The security environment in Afghanistan remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas, other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
