The Uruguayan meteorological institute INUMET has issued orange storm and rain alerts - the second-highest level - for the north of the country. Lower yellow alerts are also in place for various central regions. As of 06:00 (local time) on November 13, the orange alerts were in place in parts of the departments of Artigas, Cerro Largo, Rivera, and Salto. Associated flooding, power outages, and transportation disruptions cannot be ruled out.
Flooding is relatively common in Uruguay and can occur year round.
Individuals in affected areas are advised to maintain a safe distance from river banks, keep abreast of the situation via local media outlets, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
