Police in Hong Kong are searching for seven knife-wielding assailants that slashed and wounded two men at a restaurant in Tai Po on the morning (local time) of Tuesday, November 13. Police believe that the attack was pre-meditated; one of the victims is believed to be a member of the Sun Yee On triad. A heightened security presence is to be expected in Tai Po over the coming hours and days.
The Sun Yee On triad is a prominent organized crime syndicate primarily active in Hong Kong and China. According to authorities, some 835 triad-related crimes were reported in Hong Kong from January through June 2018, representing a nearly 2 percent decline from 2017 numbers over the same period.
Individuals in Hong Kong are advised to monitor developments to the situation, report all suspicious objects and behavior to police, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
