Tunisia News Alert

Taxi driver strike to be held on November 15 and 16; associated demonstrations to be held in Tunis

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/14/2018, 12:00 AM until 11/16/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Tunis). COUNTRY/REGION Tunis, Tunisia

The Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade, and Handicrafts (UTICA) has called for taxi drivers to stage a strike on Thursday, November 15, and Friday, November 16, to call for the government to implement labor agreements reached with unions in April. In Tunis, the strike is expected to take place from 09:00 to 13:00 (local time) on November 15, and from 05:00 to 21:00 on November 16. Associated demonstrations are anticipated in Tunis. Transportation disruptions are expected during the planned strike and protests, as well as higher demand for alternate means of transportation.

Individuals in Tunis are advised to book necessary transportation services as early as possible in anticipation of a shortage of available taxis, allow for extra time to reach their destinations in affected areas, and avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution.
