Truck drivers suspend strike in Imbabura on November 15; further strikes possible in the near term

At approximately 13:00 (local time) on Thursday, November 15, trade unions representing truck drivers suspended a strike in Ibarra (Imbabura province) following negotiations with government representatives. According to local sources, thousands of truck drivers had staged a strike on Thursday morning starting at 05:00 to protest the Transit Law under consideration by the National Assembly. Further strikes by truck drivers are nevertheless possible in the near term should negotiations break down.

Individuals in the Imbabura province are advised to keep abreast of the situation and avoid any demonstrations due to the risk of violence.
