Suspected Islamist militants launched an attack on the village of Nagalue, located in the Macomia district of Cabo Delgado province on Wednesday, November 14. According to local reports, one villager was killed, another injured, and 19 houses burned down. Similar attacks can be expected in Cabo Delgado province in the near-term.
The Ahlu Sunnah Wa-Jamo/Ansar al-Sunna (Shabaab) group is suspected of carrying out the attack. The group, operating in Cabo Delgado province since the October 2017, has been blamed for carrying out various attacks against local residents, businesses, government installations, and security forces members.
Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor developments to the situation, remain vigilant for militant activity, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities and their home governments. The security environment in Mozambique remains complex. Although travel is permissible in some areas, other areas should be considered strictly off limits.
