Security forces reportedly used tear gas to disperse a banned anti-government protest in Bamako on Friday, November 16. The opposition coalition Convergence des forces patriotiques, led by former Prime Minister Moussa Mara, and the Front pour la sauvegarde de la démocratie, led by opposition leader Soumaila Cissé, held a rally at the Bourse du Travail despite a ban by the local government on the demonstration. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are expected in the vicinity of the demonstration.

Opposition leaders organized the rally to denounce the government's territorial reorganization plan as well as efforts to extend mandates for members of parliament.

Individuals in Bamako are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
