Mayoral and magisterial elections, along with a referendum on whether the island's civil law should recognize same-sex marriage, will be held on Saturday, November 24. On November 17, tens of thousands of people took to the streets in Kaohsiung in an election-related demonstration. Further gatherings are expected to continue in the run-up to the election.


Protests in Taiwan are mostly peaceful in nature, with low risks of personal injury and property damages.


Individuals in Taiwan are advised to avoid all gatherings as a precaution.
