Senegal: Violent surf causes severe damages in Saint-Louis Nov. 19

Senegal News Alert

Violent surf causes severe damages and flooding in Saint-Louis on November 19

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/20/2018, 12:00 AM until 11/23/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Dakar). COUNTRY/REGION Senegal

Violent surf in coastal areas between Dakar and Saint-Louis caused severe damages on Monday, November 19, notably in the town of Saint-Louis. Over 100 houses were flooded and roads in some neighborhoods, including in Guet-N'dar, remain inundated as of Tuesday. Several people have been injured and local residents are reportedly fleeing the area due to the risk of building collapse.

Individuals present in affected areas should monitor local weather reports, anticipate associated transportation disruptions, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and foodstuffs discarded.
