On Tuesday, November 20, officials implemented a curfew from 21:00 to 06:00 (local time) in at least 13 communes due to sustained protests associated with the "yellow vest" movement. The curfew, in place through Friday morning, November 23, applies to the communes of Saint-Denis, Le Port, Saint-Pierre, Saint-Joseph, Saint-Leu, Saint-Louis, Saint-Paul, La Possession, Sainte-Marie, Sainte-Suzanne, Saint-Benoît, Le Tampon, and Saint-André.

Furthermore, passenger services and flight operations at Rolland Garros International Airport (RUN) are suspended from 18:00 (local time) on Tuesday to 06:15 the following morning. Authorities indicated staff are unable to travel to the airport due to the unrest.

Demonstrations denouncing rising fuel prices and a planned fuel tax began on November 17 throughout France. The government is planning a tax increase on fuel prices, including gasoline and diesel, beginning on January 1, 2019, to promote environmentally friendly practices.

Demonstrators have set up roadblocks throughout Réunion, burned tires on roads, set fire to some buildings, and ransacked shops. An increased police reinforcement was deployed overnight November 19-20 in an attempt to quell the violence.

Individuals in Réunion are advised to monitor developments to the situation, adhere to the curfew and any other instructions issued by the local authorities, allow for extra time to reach their destinations, and avoid all protests as a precaution.

Individuals traveling via RUN are advised to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport and contact their airlines for further information.
