An armed group attacked the Sharara oil field on Tuesday, November 20, stealing three vehicles. No casualties were reported in the attack and oil production has not been affected; the employees at the site were evacuated following the attack. Similar attacks targeting oil facilities are possible in the Fezzan region over the near term.
The Sharara oil field was also attacked by armed men on October 18. Similar to the November 20 attack, the assailants stole two vehicles.
The security environment in Libya remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas (with appropriate security protocols in place), other areas should be considered strictly off-limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
