DR Congo News Alert

Armed group loot humanitarian compounds in Fizi territory November 20

TIMEFRAME expected from 11/22/2018, 12:00 AM until 11/24/2018, 11:59 PM (Africa/Kinshasa). COUNTRY/REGION South Kivu

On Tuesday, November 20, armed men looted a humanitarian compound located in Lulimba, Fizi territory (South Kivu). This attack came three days after one of the NGO's vehicles was looted in Baraka (South Kivu). Further attacks against NGOs are possible in the coming days and weeks

The Congolese government's limited presence in the eastern provinces, including North and South Kivu, as well as the presence of numerous armed groups and local self-defense militias (Maï-Maï militias) have led to continued insecurity in the area.

The political and security situation in DRC is complex. Although travel is permissible in some areas, other areas may be considered off limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to travel.
