Near-blizzard conditions forecast for South Dakota, Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota from November 30 to December 2; transportation disruptions likely

The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather watch from Friday evening (local time), November 30, to Sunday, December 2, for a large portion of the northern Plains and Midwest, including southern South Dakota, northern Nebraska, northwest Iowa, and southwest Minnesota. The storm is forecast to begin with freezing rain and mixed precipitation on Friday night before transitioning to heavy snowfall of up to 28 cm (11 in). Strong winds with gusts up to 55 km/h (35 mph) are also expected. Transportation disruptions and adverse driving conditions, including icy roads, snow drifts, and limited visibility, are likely, particularly for areas near Sioux Falls. Travelers along Interstates 90, 29, and 35 should take caution. 


Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, refrain from unnecessary travel, anticipate heavy snow and adverse driving conditions.
