University students are continuing an indefinite nationwide strike which has been going on for over 50 days as of Thursday, December 6. Unions and associations representing students have called for demonstrations to take place in Bogotá on December 6, 7, and 13. On December 6, demonstrators are expected to rally in front of university campuses throughout the city starting at 10:00 (local time). Related demonstrations are also possible in other cities throughout Colombia. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are anticipated in the vicinity of any gathering. Roadblocks and public transportation service disruptions are possible.

Protesters are denouncing a proposed 19 percent sales tax (IVA) increase on food products, as well as cuts to the education budget. Numerous demonstrations regarding these issues have been held in the country in recent weeks.

Individuals in Colombia, particularly Bogotá, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid public demonstrations as a precaution, and anticipate transportation disruptions, including bus service disruptions and roadblocks.
