An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.5 on the Richter scale struck the island of Lombok on Thursday, December 6. Its epicenter was located about 17 km (10.6 mi) north of Mataram, at a depth of 15 km. Neither immediate casualties nor major damages were reported.
In August 2018, Lombok was devastated by a series of earthquakes generating tsunamis and major infrastructural damages. Nearly 600 people were killed.
