Hungary: Demonstration in Budapest December 8

Supporters of the Hungarian Trade Union Confederation threatened to erect road blocks nationwide on Monday, December 10, amid a wave of protests against a labor law scheduled for vote in Parliament on December 11. Traffic disruptions are expected to affect various cities - including Pécs and Győr - throughout Hungary. Further protests in the capital Budapest and other urban centers are possible in the aftermath of the vote.

The controversial law paves the way for employers to request up to 400 hours of overtime work annually; up from current 250 hours.

A related protest took place in Budapest on December 8 and resulted in significant transportation disruptions.

Individuals present in Hungary should monitor the development of the situation, allow for extra time to reach their destination, and avoid all protests as a precaution.
