Heavy rain has affected the central province of Prachuap Khiri Khan over the past week, resulting in flooding and landslides as of Tuesday, December 11. The southernmost district of Bang Saphan Noi is particularly affected; overnight December 10, heavy downpours affected the area. Local authorities warned of possible runoff and mudslides in the area as well as in the districts of Bang Saphan and Thap Sakae in the coming hours. According to the Meteorological Department, further rainfall is expected throughout the day in Prachuap Khiri Khan as well as in other provinces (e.g. Chumphon, Surat Thani, Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, and Songkhla provinces).
Bang Saphan Noi is one of the province's most flood-prone districts. In November, the district was flooded following heavy downpours, resulting in constraints on vehicle traffic, individual movement, and daily life.
Individuals present in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation and power disruptions, reconfirm flights, obey instructions issued by the local authorities (e.g. evacuation orders), and avoid flood-prone areas until the situation stabilizes. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
