Members of the Korea Taxi Labor Union Federation and other labor unions staged a demonstration in Seoul on Wednesday, December 12, against the planned launch of a ride-sharing service. Protesters also held a memorial at the National Assembly building for a taxi driver who died after self-immolating on December 10 in an apparent protest to the service's launch. Organizers have also threatened to stage a demonstration on Thursday, Wednesday 20, at the National Assembly building. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are anticipated in the area.
