The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a dawn-to-dusk strike across Kerala state (one of the country's two major southern states) on Friday, December 14, after a man immolated himself the day prior during a BJP protest held in the capital Thiruvananthapuram. The strike is being observed from 06:00 to 18:00 (local time). As such, significant public transportation disruptions are reported throughout the state, notably in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Thrissur. Taxis and rickshaws services, seem, however, to operate normally. Most shops, gas stations, and schools are also reportedly closed.
Individuals in Kerala are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all public demonstration due to the risk of violence, and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities.
