On Wednesday, December 12, the London metropolitan police (MET) announced that 2018 year-to-date homicide statistics were the highest since 2008. According to the MET statistics, there were 130 homicide cases from January 1 to December 12, an increase of 14 compared to 2017 figures and included 73 stabbings and 14 shootings. London city representatives attribute this rise of violent crimes to the reduction of budgetary and human resources of the police.
Homicide rates have been constantly decreasing in the UK in between 2003 (221) and 2014 (94) and started raising again since 2015 (119).
Individuals in London are advised to remain vigilant for possible criminal activity and follow local police advice.
