Authorities have issued a Red alert - the highest on a four-tiered scale - in the Loma Negra sector of Valparaíso (Valparaíso province) due to the so-called Fundo El Olivo wildfire on Sunday, December 16. Emergency crews have reportedly been battling the wildfire near the intersection of Route 68 and La Pólvora, with as many as 10 fire brigades responding, since Saturday, December 15. Officials have urged caution for those traveling in the area and transportation disruptions due to road closures are possible in the coming hours and days.
Forest fires are common in Chile during the summer months.
Individuals in the area are advised to keep abreast of the situation and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
