Demonstrations broke out in the town of Regueb (Sidi Bouzid province) overnight on December 17-18 (local time). According to reports, protesters burned tires and blocked roads around Place des Martyrs to protest high unemployment rates in the area and to demand the completion of building and infrastructure projects in the town. Demonstrators threatened local officials with further protests should their demands not be met. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are possible are anticipated in the vicinity of any demonstration.
