According to a police statement on Saturday, December 22, the deadly shooting that took place in Vienna (near Wollzeile)  on December 21 was a targeted assassination linked to organized criminal groups from the Balkans. The incident left one man dead, who has since been identified as a drug gang member released from prison earlier this month; he was reportedly shot as he was leaving a restaurant with two others, one of who was also shot and injured. The third person is being questioned by Austrian authorities as a witness. The shooter reportedly remains at large and a manhunt is ongoing; an associated heightened security presence and possible transportation disruptions should be expected in Vienna in the near-term. However, authorities have stated that Friday's incident does not indicate any further danger to the general public.

Individuals in Vienna are advised to monitor developments to the situation and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
