Four people were killed on December 23 in the southwestern Koh Kong province, highlighting the high death rates on Cambodian roads

TIMEFRAME expected from 12/24/2018, 12:00 AM until 12/24/2018, 11:59 PM (UTC). COUNTRY/REGION Cambodia

On Sunday, December 23, four people were killed and eleven others injured in a truck accident in the southwestern Koh Kong province (west of Phnom Penh capital city). Further such accidents are likely in the near term, as the death toll from road traffic accidents remains high in Cambodia. According to the authorities, in the first nine months of 2018, over 1300 people were killed and 3400 others injured in road accidents.

Cambodia has one of the highest rates of road traffic accidents in South East Asia. Many accidents are due to the poor vehicles and driver safety standards.

As a reminder, individuals traveling to Cambodia need a Cambodian driving license to drive a vehicle, including a motorcycle. Before renting a vehicle, travelers are advised to check their travel insurance policy to ensure they are covered (as either the driver or the passenger). Drive safely in all circumstances, regardless of road and traffic conditions.
