Demonstrations broke out in Kasserine (Kasserine province) overnight on December 24-25 after a journalist self-immolated himself to protest poor economic conditions in the region. Demonstrators reportedly erected roadblocks, burned tires, and clashed with police officers. At least nine demonstrators were arrested by security forces. Further associated demonstrations are possible in the coming days. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of any demonstration.
