The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) warned that inclement weather conditions, including strong winds, cold wave, heavy rain, and rising sea levels, will persist across the country, notably in the northern area, through January 9. The capital Cairo is also likely to be affected. Consequent transportation disruptions are to be expected.

Furthermore, the seven ports - Alexandria and Dekheila on the Mediterranean Sea and Ain SokhnaSuez, and three smaller ports on the Gulf of Suez - closed on January 6 due to strong winds and high waves remain closed as of Wednesday, January 9. It is unclear when the ports will be reopened to shipping. Maritime shipping and transportation disruptions are to be expected in Egyptian waters until the weather improves and the ports are reopened.

Individuals in Egypt are advised to monitor developments to the situation and prepare for maritime shipping and transportation disruptions.
