Primary elections for the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will take place once again in some constituencies of the Southern Region, including in Blantyre Malabada, Mulanje North, Nsanje Lalanje, Thyolo South West, Chiradzulu East, and Blantyre City West, on Wednesday, January 9, following allegations of vote rigging. Related protests are possible throughout the day, notably in Blantyre, where small protests occurred following the primaries.
The DPP primary elections were held on December 21 and come ahead of general elections scheduled to take place on May 21.
Individuals present in Malawi, notably in the Southern region, are advised to keep abreast of the situation and avoid any potential demonstrations or political events due to the risk of violence, which can erupt with little or no notice.
