A demonstration took place in front of the Iranian embassy in The Hague on the afternoon (local time) of Wednesday, January 9. Demonstrators reportedly tried to enter the embassy before police officers dispersed the demonstration and arrested at least four protesters. According to local sources, demonstrators were protesting the alleged killing by Iranian intelligence officers of two Dutch nationals in 2015 and 2017. Further related demonstrations are possible in the coming days. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are to be anticipated in the vicinity of any demonstration.
Individuals in the Netherlands, and particularly The Hague, are advised to monitor the situation and avoid all protests as a precaution.
