Security staff at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) are planning to hold a strike on Tuesday, January 15. According to the Verdi labor union, the strike will take place from 02:00 until 20:00 (local time). Airport officials have warned that significant flight disruptions, including delays and cancelations, are expected during the work stoppage and security checkpoints outside the transit area will be closed. Other regional airports may also experience disruptions due to the strike. Residual delays are also likely at FRA when security staff return to work.
Associated strikes by security staff were held at Düsseldorf (DUS), Stuttgart (STR), and Cologne-Bonn Konrad-Adenauer (CGN) international airports on January 10, causing significant flight disruptions. Verdi represents 23,000 security workers in Germany and are currently engaged in wage talks which are expected to resume on January 23.
Potentially impacted travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights prior to departure for the airport and anticipate increased waiting times at screening areas.
