Event

A winter storm, named "Miriam," is forecast to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and some snowfall to Lebanon through Thursday, January 17, with the fiercest weather expected late evening and early morning (local time) on Tuesday, January 15, and Wednesday, January 16. Wind gusts of up to 100 km/h (60 mph) are possible along the coast along with a high storm surge. Heavy rain is expected with snow at higher elevations. Flooding and associate transportation disruptions are possible and power disruptions cannot be ruled out.

Context

"Miriam" follows shortly after winter storm "Norma" hit the country earlier this month.

Advice

Individuals in Lebanon are advised to monitor local weather forecasts, prepare for transportation disruptions (e.g. flight delays and cancelations, road closures), allow extra time to reach their destinations, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.

Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
