An 72-hour curfew was imposed in the town of Orodara, the capital of the Kenedougou province on Saturday, January 19, following clashes between local youths and the police overnight January 18-19. Five people were killed and eight others injured in the violence. The curfew, which runs from 18:00 to 06:00 (local time) will remain in place at least until January 22.
Individuals present or traveling to the affected area are advised to monitor developments to the situation, abide by the curfew, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
On a more general note, due to the severe threats of terrorism and kidnapping, individuals present in Burkina Faso - including the capital Ouagadougou - are strongly advised to be discreet regarding personal details, particularly information concerning nationality, employment, family, etc. Individuals are also advised to avoid public events and places frequented by Westerners, to remain vigilant at all times, and to report any suspicious objects or behavior to the authorities.
