Pakistan: Heavy rain affecting Islamabad region Jan. 21-22

Pakistan News Alert

Islamabad and Rawalpindi experience heavy downpours since January 21

TIMEFRAME expected from 1/22/2019, 12:00 AM until 1/22/2019, 11:59 PM (UTC). COUNTRY/REGION Islamabad

As of Tuesday, January 22, heavy rainfall continues to affect, for the second consecutive day, the capital Islamabad and the neighbouring city of Rawalpindi, leading to significant road travel disruptions (flooding, traffic jam, etc.) and air traffic disruptions (flight cancelations reported at Islamabad International Airport - ISB). Temporary power and gas cuts were also reported. Weather conditions are expected to improve on Wednesday, January 23.

Individuals in the Islamabad region are advised to monitor local weather reports, anticipate transportation and power disruptions, obey instructions issued by the local authorities, and avoid flood-prone areas until the situation stabilizes. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
