In the evening (local time) of Monday, January 21, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced the Tropical Depression Amang had weakened into a low pressure area. This improvement led the authorities to lift the Tropical Depression warning in all affected areas. However, light to moderate rain are expected on Tuesday, January 22, in Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern Samar. Authorities have warned local residents of possible flash floods and landslides.
Amang, Philippines' first tropical cyclone in 2019, made landfall in Siargao Island on the evening of January 20. The Philippines typically experiences approximately 15-20 tropical cyclones annually from April through December.
Individuals in the affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate transportation and power disruptions, and avoid low-lying and flood-prone areas.
