Natural disaster officials announced on Monday, January 21, that around 700 people on the island of Ambrym have been relocated to safe locations in the past month. Families from four villages were evacuated due to ongoing volcanic eruptions and associated earthquakes. According to officials, as of Monday there were no plans to evacuate the residents to other islands. Further relocations are possible in the coming weeks.


All those present in Vanuatu are advised to monitor the situation and avoid affected areas. Individuals already present in these areas are advised to follow all instructions issued by local authorities; be prepared to leave immediately if an evacuation order is given.
