The ruling Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and Peace (RHDP) coalition is planning to hold a congress in the Plateau district of Abidjan on Saturday, January 26. Up to 150,000 people are expected to attend the event, which will be held at the Felix Houphouet Boigny stadium. Heightened security measures, localized traffic disruptions, and crowded conditions are expected in the area. Associated opposition protests are also possible.
The RHDP congress will mark the founding anniversary of the coalition and the beginning of the campaign for the 2020 presidential elections.
Individuals in Abidjan are advised to follow all instructions issued by local authorities, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
