Dozens of demonstrators associated with the Martyrs Foundation, including families of deceased Iraqi security forces members, are staging a protest in Baghdad on Wednesday, January 23, marching on the 14th July Bridge en route to the International Zone (IZ; also known as the "Green Zone"). Reports indicate that security forces were containing the demonstrators on the 14th July Bridge before they could reach the 14th July roundabout within the IZ. Advice

Individuals in Iraq, and particularly those in Baghdad, are advised to monitor the situation, avoid all protests and large public gatherings as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.

The security environment in Iraq remains complex. Although travel is possible in some areas with proper security protocols in place, other areas should be considered strictly off limits. Professional security advice and support should be sought prior to all travel.
