The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued blizzard warnings for western parts of Minnesota, northeastern South Dakota, and eastern North Dakota on Wednesday, January 23. According to the NWS, the warnings will be in effect from 21:00 (local time) on Wednesday through 12:00 on Thursday, January 24. Winds of up to 72 km/h (45 mph), temperatures as low as -35 °C (-37 °F), and whiteout conditions are forecast in the abovementioned areas. Hazardous driving conditions and transportation disruptions are expected.
Individuals in the affected area are advised to monitor local weather reports, adhere to instructions issued by local authorities, anticipate extremely cold temperatures, transportation disruptions (e.g. road closures) and adverse driving conditions (e.g. extremely limited visibility, icy roads), and avoid unnecessary travel.
